Where Does Bread Come From?

Bread is a staple food all over the world. Different cultures use it in one form or another to prepare different dishes. A slice of ordinary bread is found in the average North American household. In France, you can find handmade bread. In the Middle East, you find patties, and in South America, tortillas. In Asia, the dough is used to make wontons and in Italy, bread is used to make pizzas. It's something you can encounter wherever you travel.

No one knows the origin of bread. Its history goes back to the Neolithic period. No one knows if someone inadvertently left a cereal porridge sitting for a long time and it rose from the yeast, or if men actually experimented with cereals for a long time to make bread

Kinds of Breads

Today, however, we know that there are many different kinds of bread. You can buy white bread, for which only the kernel of the wheat grain is used. There is black bread, which is made from a wheat kernel with 10% bran added. You can also buy wholemeal bread, which is made with wholemeal flour.

Another common type of bread is rye bread, made from rye flour. Whichever type of bread you choose, it is a familiar product in every household: if you eat two loaves of bread a day, you will eat 56,758 loaves in your lifetime. So, choose your breads carefully!
